Accessibility Statement
At BHE UNI, we believe higher education belongs to everyone. We are dedicated to ensuring that all prospective students, regardless of disability, neurodivergence, or impairment, experience complete barrier-free access.
Our Accessibility Commitment
Boost Education Service Ltd t/a BHE UNI is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people of all abilities, including those with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive impairments.
Our mission is rooted in breaking down historical barriers to university study. We continuously improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards across all digital platforms, mobile devices, and physical branch locations.
Digital Standards & WCAG 2.1 AA
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Our web portal (bheuni.uk / bheuni.io) is actively developed to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations.
Core Accessibility Features
We have integrated key technical and ergonomic features into our website infrastructure:
Typography & Contrast
High contrast ratios exceeding 4.5:1 for body copy, scalable vector fonts (Inter & Plus Jakarta Sans), and distinct typographic hierarchy for effortless reading.
Keyboard Navigation
Full logical tab navigation with visible focus rings across all links, consultation buttons, interactive accordions, and form fields.
Responsive Layouts
Fluid layouts supporting up to 300% zoom without horizontal scrolling or content truncation across mobile phones, tablets, and desktop displays.
Reduced Motion
Respect for user system preferences (prefers-reduced-motion), muting decorative animations for users sensitive to vestibular discomfort.
- Semantic HTML5 Structure: Proper use of
<header>,<main>,<nav>,<aside>, and<footer>landmarks. - Screen Reader Clarity: All decorative elements include
aria-hidden="true", and icons or action triggers provide informative ARIA labels and context. - Plain English: We avoid bureaucratic university jargon, explaining complex student finance and admission procedures in clear, everyday language.
Assistive Technology Compatibility
Our site is designed and tested for compatibility with modern web browsers and assistive technologies:
- Screen Readers: NVDA and JAWS on Windows; VoiceOver on macOS and iOS; TalkBack on Android.
- Modern Browsers: Current releases of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Microsoft Edge.
- Speech Recognition Software: Dragon NaturallySpeaking and built-in OS voice navigation.
Physical Campus & Hub Accessibility
We provide in-person consultation and application clinics across three major UK regional hubs:
London Hub
Beaufort Court, Canary Wharf (E14 9XL): Fully accessible ground floor entry with automated doors, passenger lift access to Suites 11 & 12, accessible restroom facilities, and step-free DLR connections at South Quay.
Manchester Hub
Universal Square, Devonshire St (M12 6JH): Step-free entrance, dedicated disabled parking bays, wide corridors, and full wheelchair accessibility throughout consultation areas.
Our Milton Keynes hub also features ramped step-free access and nearby parking. Guide dogs and recognized assistance animals are warmly welcomed across all our premises.
Alternative Formats & 1-to-1 Assistance
If you require information in an alternative format, our team is equipped to provide:
- Large Print Documents: High-contrast printed or digital PDF guides with 18pt+ font sizing.
- Telephone Consultations: Step-by-step guidance over the phone where our advisor reads and clarifies each form question.
- WhatsApp Text Support: Asynchronous communication for students who prefer text-based communication over voice or video calls.
- Assisted In-Person Application Clinics: An advisor sits with you one-on-one to scan documents and complete university portal submissions together.
Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) Support
If you have a mental health condition, long-term illness, physical disability, or specific learning difficulty (such as dyslexia or ADHD), you may be entitled to Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) through Student Finance England.
DSA is a non-repayable government grant designed to cover the cost of specialized study-related support, including:
- Specialist equipment (e.g. assistive speech-to-text software, ergonomic laptops, noise-cancelling headphones).
- Non-medical helpers (such as one-to-one specialist study skills tutors and mental health mentors).
- Travel assistance to and from campus where disability limits the use of public transit.
Continuous Auditing & Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing journey. We regularly review our digital assets using automated testing tools (such as Lighthouse, axe DevTools, and WAVE) alongside manual assistive technology walkthroughs.
When new features, interactive calculators, or intake application forms are deployed, accessibility testing is conducted prior to production release to prevent accessibility regression.
